We propose bike excursion with departure and return to the farm Moschella (Cerignola). You can spend a morning or a day between sport and nature.
The Via dell'Acqua route connects some of the main places of the Ofanto River Regional Natural Park and takes place almost entirely on country roads and service roads without traffic.
The exceptional variety of the landscape of the Ofanto Valley in this area consists in passing from the slopes of the Subappenino Dauno to the last bastion of Meseta, the step of Ripalta, before the horizon opens the plain of the Tavoliere di Puglia with its wheat fields interspersed with olive groves and vineyards.
Along the way, several birdwatching stations are reached: bee-eaters, falcons, cormorants and storks that every spring return to this part of Puglia: one of the main nesting areas in Italy.
It is possible to make it by e-bike rental or mountain bike (own or rental).
Chiara our cooker has learned to make orecchiette and other kind of Pasta from her mother... She is a true champion and with her sympathy she will be able to bring you into the stories of an ancient rural culture.
From durum flour and water, the miracle is realised!
In some periods of the year it is possible to associate a walk to the discovery of the typical spontaneous vegetables, to cook with the orecchiette... a delight for the palate!
Farmhouse Moschella is ideally situated for exploring the rich history of Apulia and Basilicata. Nearby, you can visit the Civic Antiquarium Museum in Lavello, the Castle of Melfi, and the Archaeological Park.
The town of Venosa, known as the birthplace of the famous Roman poet Horace, has an unfinished Roman amphitheater, and Ascoli Satriano is home to impressive ancient sculptures known as the Griffins. Without going so far, you can also visit the Alemanna Tower in Borgo Libertà and the historical remains in Canne della Battaglia.
If you’re interested in exploring even more, you can take a short drive to the coastal city of Trani, with its beautiful cathedral and castle, or visit Castel del Monte, the famous medieval castle.
In less than two hours, you can reach the Valle d'Itria, famous for its traditional trulli houses and charming towns. We’re also just an hour away from Matera, where the ancient Sassi cave dwellings are now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Nature enthusiasts will love the nearby Saline of Margherita di Savoia, a large salt flat, and the Gargano National Park, where you can explore the peaceful Umbra Forest. You can also enjoy the stunning blue beaches of the Gargano area, or visit Monte Sant'Angelo, a town with a rich cultural and religious history, the city of the two UNIESCO sites.
